I can't believe that next week is the last week of summer camps for Dragon Art. I go back to working at the school after that.(We will still offer classes evenings and weekends when school starts.)) Next week is Jewelry camp, Illustration Camp, and Puppet camp. I can't wait to see what everyone creates.

In instrument camp we made three instruments. A whistle, a three in one instrument with a rasp, rattle, and shekere, and a caxixi.

Painting Camp and Family Clay night.

Today was the second day of Painting Camp. We are having fun finding out about different artists and trying to paint like them. Today we took notes on paper we aged by staining it with tea, and painted on canvas paper. Yesterday, we learned about color theory and painted color wheels.

Tonight at Family Clay Night, we made clay tools from nails, knitting needles, and regular needles. We used a tube cutter and sculpty to fashion the tools and make handles.

We have added an evening doll making camp to our summer calendar.We had several requests for a night doll making class for kids and adult participants, so, we are offering one on July 29th through August 2nd from 6-8:30. Sign up soon to reserve your spot.

Costume camp is over for the summer and we miss it already. We finished tons of projects, but I still had several we wanted to do. Next year maybe this camp needs to be two weeks. I had also planned for time for play in the costumes and we didn't get to do that during camp, we were too busy creating. On Thursday camp was all about hair. We made two kinds of beards with mustaches and yarn wigs. On Friday we made a third mustache, finished their beaks, and each child worked on an individual project from box costumes (Robots or dragon heads) to a peacock tail. The children really worked hard.

While only a few of us participated during our first Family Clay Night, we had a very creative time. I hope more people will join us next week.

Tomorrow is the first family clay night. We will start at 5:30 and go till 8:30. This is a walk in event. It will not take the whole time. It works like an open house, you come whenever you want to in the time period and if there is a seat and clay left you get to sit down and do it. First come first served. Bring your family and come play in the clay. Cost is $7.00 per person. Tomorrow we will be making pinch pot animals. You and you family will make one each and then leave it with me. Next week you do another project and then the third week you do a project and then glaze the first project you made. We stole the idea from a ceramics place in Salem. They had a clay day and my family loved it.I hope you will too. You can start making your Christmas presents now.

Wow Camp has been so much fun. Our Fairy Camp was a hit, and this weeks Costume camp has started out really "Super". I am going to figure out how to post large groups of pictures.

Registration Officially starts tomorrow for Summer Camps. There will be someone in my Store off and on all day. From 3:30-6:30 Several people will be there to answer questions and help people sign up for camps. Most Camps are $50 for a weeks worth of classes plus a materials fee. We do not have a way to take credit cards yet. Let us know if there is a camp you want to attend that you don't see listed, we are adding new things all the time.

New store opening soon!

We leased a building and are opening soon. While the shelving is not in yet, we are taking registration  starting Monday, for summer camps . This is not the complete list of classes, just the list of camp classes. Each class will have multiple projects every day. For instance, our henna camp will start out with a watercolor henna design painting, for students to learn about the patterns and routes of henna design. The next day they will practice their techniques while using the designs decorating gourds. The next day we will work on space and composition while painting (?TBA). The fourth day they will use craft henna (henna paste without essential oils) to stain wood boxes with their designs. On the last day they will practice henna on each other. There will be mini lessons throughout, and hints about the tricks I have learned. Each of our camps will build up the students skills, until the student has the opportunity to show what they have learned in a final project. Each camp has limited space. So let me know if you see one you want. We will be adding a regular class schedule later on in the month. Make sure to check back often because we have teachers coming to teach all kinds of fun things! From Polly teaching sewing, crafter Karen Ledbetter traveling from Idaho to teach doll making in our doll camp, to several local jewelry makers and illustrators each teaching their own classes it is going to be a full summer of arts and crafts.

Hi Dragon Art now has it's own blog.

Dragon Art is a small business which sells art created by Kassy Keppol and her family. We hand make and create all of our own designs and products. This site will eventually be a jumping place to see all of the new things we have been creating. While we mostly dabble in Dragons and fantasy, we have also create books, jewelry,and custom artwork. We will begin including links for you to find different products soon.
